We hosted a cookout for the street over the July 4th weekend. It was hotter than heck, but I think we still managed to pull it off. And by ‘we’, I mean Jonathan, as I cede all party-making-plans to him. The thought of hosting three dozen people is enough to make my head spin right off my shoulders with thoughts of inadequacy, but everyone loves a good Jonathan Lupton joint. We had some of our own fireworks when it got dark, but I think the kids liked those poppers that they were snapping all over the driveway the best.
Here’s Evan, post-cupcake:
We have also spent the past two days with our nephew, Jason. He came up to our place to see the postponed 4th of July fireworks and the next day, we headed to Peachtree City to swim it up in Grandma and Grandpa’s pool. Again, super fun.
This week will be our first week of summer without any camps for the kids. We’ve spent a king’s ransom on camp tuitions this summer, and although I have that ‘Mom’s Taxi’ sort of feeling from carting them hither, thither and yon, I have to say, WORTH IT. We are all so much happier when the kids are active and (here’s the best part) being cared for by someone else! On that subject, a special, bottom-of-my-heart shout out to Gordon and Elaine, Elise, and Jeff and Dana for being part of our ‘village’.
Long live benign neglect!
